2012 Update!
Those of you who are familiar with Waterglass will not be suprised to see that we did not manage to get our new album released in 2010 or 2011. We are happy to report that we are making steady but slow progress with the new album and we really do plan to release it in 2012 and play live again too. Any new converts to Waterglass - welcome and please be patient. This website is currently history. For up to the minute information please find us on Facebook or Reverbnation where you can find pictures, rough mixes of new songs and even videos of new and old material. We will update the website one day.
If you want to purchase Waterglass songs you will soon be able to buy tracks from our first album Wisdom Like Silence on itunes and other digital outlets from mid January 2012. If you prefer a good old fashioned CD, please contact us.
2009 Update!
After a ‘break’ of over 6 years the new three piece Waterglass are making a return.
We’re playing our first gig in over six years on:
Sunday 25th October 2009
at
The Priory Bar
Bell Street, Reigate, Surrey
8 p.m
Admission free
We will be playing a mixture of old songs and new ones. This will be our first performance of our new material.
We’re supporting a Cure tribute band and as all three of us are big Cure fans it promises to be a great night out.
The past six years have not exactly been a break, but we’ve all had other things we needed to do. After the release of Wisdom Like Silence Andy and Rose left the band at the end of 2002. We decided not to replace them and instead Victoria took on the roll of bass guitar in addition to vocals and Aidan switched to guitars. Andrew of course stayed with the drums.
We’ve spent that time writing and rehearsing new material, trying to squeeze the most we can out of the three-piece set up. We’ve dabbled with electronics and may end up bringing some backing into the live set. But for now we’ve decided to keep it simple and do what we do best; play our songs for you in our own inimitable style and hope that they touch you and connect with you in some way.
As well as writing new material we’ve also started recording our next release. We spent a week in August at the beautiful Bryn Derwen Studio in North Wales, recording the bones of 10 new songs. We’re putting the finishing touches to the songs back at our own studio now and we hope to have something ready for release in the early part of 2010, funds and time permitting!
We will be updating the website too, so bookmark us and check back. We’ll also be setting up on MySpace in the near future.
REVIEW!
Another great review from Starvox - thanks Jezebel!
BEST OF 2002
No gigs in the pipeline as yet, but there are a few reviews and photos to keep you occupied:
Uncle Nem has written yet another great review (scroll down to aprox 2/3 of the page), and also listed Waterglass in his top 10 albums of 2002.
Adrian has taken some of the best band shots ever: go to the pictures page to see Waterglass 'Unhinged' and at Slimes, and visit his website www.adrianjudd.org.uk. for more cool photography.
WATERGLASS AT SLIMELIGHT, SAT 14th DECEMBER
Supported by Interlock, and largely populated by their fans, the Slimelight gig was a rather different affair to the last weekend. With Andy very recently returned from Mexico, having had the full 'cultural' experience, and Rose taking a break from the Zen of Motorcycle Maintenance, it was once again full noise ahead. And it wouldn't have been a very nice noise it it wasn't for the help of Interlock's sound engineer who ably and willingly filled the role of the mysterious vanishing in-house staff. Thanks xxx.
Photos on the pictures page, also on Adrian's site (thanks again Adrian!).
WATERGLASS UNHINGED, THE VERGE, SUN 8th DECEMBER
The 'Unhinged' gig certainly lived up to its name by all accounts, the band giving a good, if slightly alternative, account of themselves, revelling in their never-to-be-repeated roles as queens of slut-goth. The crowd seems suitable bemused, and worryingly convinced by the carefully choreographed debauchery; it's called acting apparently (nothing to do with bottles of champagne and long cigarettes). And who was that girl on the guitar?
Both Descendants of Cain and The Order of Azrael played much enjoyed sets of big loud dark music; it was a great evening, many thanks to Descendants and Faith for inviting Waterglass to support.
Photos on the pictures page, also on Adrian's site, and Descendents of Cain website.
The gig has been reviewed by starvox and Meltdown (see reviews).
Losing two band members may be considered a bit careless however, and Rose and Andy will be back to rock the party with Waterglass in full force headlining at Slimes this Saturday.
